  1. 32bit Fax Installation
  2.  
  3. Installing or reinstalling the shareware version of 32bit Fax:
  4.  
  5. If reinstalling in Windows 95/98, you may need to go to [My Computer],
  6. [Printers] and delete [32BF 95 Convert to Fax].
  7.  
  8. Be sure to get the newest version from our www-page.
  9.  
  10. Shut down and restart the computer because you can not reinstall or
  11. modify a file that; is in use, is running, and in some cases if it has
  12. been running earlier. When rebooting, be sure you do not start any apps
  13. or programs, especially virus detecting programs. Be sure that 32bit Fax
  14. and associated files are not running or in use, and that 32bit Fax is not
  15. running as a service.
  16.  
  17. If you are installing on NT and you have [RAS], [Proxy Server], [Exchange
  18. Server], [wingate], and/or any other Services that may be reserving
  19. resources and/or the modem running as a service, go to [Services] in the
  20. [Control Panel] and disable/Stop them.  Note...After installation
  21. re-enable any services that you disable now.
  22.  
  23. Be sure to log on as the administrator.
  24.  
  25. Be sure that 32bit Fax has full read/write access.
  26.  
  27. Be sure the time and date are the same on all computers on the network.
  28.  
  29. To install 32BF on Windows 95/98/NT4.xx, use [Start], [Run], [Browse] and
  30. browse to the directory where you unzipped 32BF and select INSTALL.EXE. Do
  31. not run INSTALL.EXE in any way other than the way just described.

  33. Install or reinstalling 32BF without any programs or virus scanners
  34. running in the background. Be sure that, not even, 32BF is running in
  35. the background. Be sure that the 32BF INSTALL.EXE has read/write access
  36. to the HardDrive and all files. Otherwise some files may not get copied or
  37. modified. Re-boot immediately after installing.

  39. The install instructions are in the INSTALL.EXE.

  41. Be very careful when asked for this computer's HardDrive. This computer's
  42. HardDrive should usually be C: drive. If installing on a network you will 
  43. select the Server HardDrive later.
  44.  
  45. If installing on a standalone computer, do nothing. If installing on a 
  46. network, the Server HardDrive is the mapped drive that all instances on 
  47. 32BF will be using as their [Server HardDrive]. Do not map to 32BITFAX
  48. directory.
  49.  
  50. You may need to reinstall all workstations. Be VERY careful when asked for
  51. THIS COMPUTERS HardDrive and then for the SERVER HardDrive. THIS COMPUTERS
  52. HardDrive is normally C: drive.
  53.  
  54. If you have mapped the workstation 2 SERVER HardDrive to the
  55. ServerDriveLetter:\32BITFAX, it will not work. You will need to re-map it
  56. to ServerDriveLetter:\
  57.  
  58. You can use paths if you are good with mapping directories.
  59.  
  60. To learn how to map to a directory instead of the root of a server drive,
  61. go to www.ElectraSoft.com, the bottom of [Run 32bit Fax
  62. as an NT Service] and read the message thread on this subject.
  63.  
  64. You may want to dedicate a whole server drive to 32BF.
  65.  
  66. After final installation:
  67. If you have installed 32BF two or more times; once on one HardDrive
  68. and once on another, go to the [printers] and be sure that the ?:\TOFAX
  69. port is correct. Where ? is the HardDriveLetter that 32BF is installed
  70. on.

  72. 32BF Convert to Fax MUST use ?:\TOFAX as its port!
  73.  
  74. Be sure you do *NOT* have a directory or file called ?:\TOFAX on the 
  75. system.
  76.  
  77. Do not share the 32BF Convert to Fax on ?:\TOFAX.  Each station has
  78. its own.
  79.  
  80. All versions of Windows except NT will have the 32BF Convert to Fax
  81. available now.
  82.  
  83. If you have Windows NT, go to the Printer-Installer and create the
  84. [32BF NT Convert to Fax] as per the 32BF README instructions. The
  85. section you want to read is called WINDOWS NT.

  89. If your are installing on Windows 95/98 and after rebooting your computer
  90. the [95 Convert to Fax] does not show up in the printer selection list,
  91. use the Add Printer ICON as follows:
  92.   o  Click [My Computer], [Printers], [Add Printer], and the Add
  93.      Printer Wizard box will appear.
  94.   o  Click [Next].
  95.   o  Click [(*)Local Printer], [Next] to go to the Printer selection box.
  96.   o  Under [Manufacturer:] select [ElectraSoft].
  97.   o  Under [Printers:] select:
  98.      [32BF 95 Convert to Fax] or [FaxMail 95 Convert to Fax]
  99.   o  Click [Next] to go to the [Available Port:] selection box.
  100.   o  Select [*]?:\TOFAX Unknown local port. Where the ? is the drive you
  101.      installed the fax program on.
  102.   o  Click [Next].
  103.   o  Click [(*)No], [Next].
  104.   o  Click [(*)Yes], [Next] and wait up to one minuet.
  105.   o  When asked [Would you like to start the fax program, click [Yes].
  106.   o  Shortly the ElectraSoft [Send Fax] box will appear.
  107.   o  Click [View Fax] to be sure it worked ok.
  108.   o  When asked [Did the test page print correctly] click [Yes].
